Review of some free apps which can protect USB disk from virus. Check the post for more details..
Over 5 or 6 year back, once I went to a digital store just because I wanted to experience a PenDrive, the retailer asked me whether I needed a PenDrive with storage in GBs or MBs. This line makes it so clear that how expensive it was to own a USB disk before a few years, but today, with so many technical improvements, it is very easy to own a USB disk of several GBs and that costs you just a few bucks.
As a portable data transfer device, USB disks are likely to carry many more things which they should not. This includes many temporary files related to that particular data and even malware or Trojans if these items are present in a computer.
If your computer contains any such suspicious file or item, it becomes very hectic to protect your USB disk once you connect it, because most USB disks do not come with a write protection feature which can stop the viruses being copied into your drive. Most basic thing you can do to overcome this is, buy a Branded and trust-able USB disk. If you are a wholesaler, buying Bulk USB Sticks can be a better option for you.
There are several applications available out there in the market which can help you to write-protect your USB disk. Some of them are free and some are paid. These applications lock your USB stick and do not allow any other file, Trojan or a malware to be copied inside it. Have a look at couple of those free apps which can help you performing this task.
ThumbScrew
ThumbScrew is a freeware app which automatically makes any USB drive Write Protected. Which means no file or folder can be copied to USB drive from the host computer without your permission.
You can find an icon of this app in the system trey icons. After Right Clicking on the name of a particular USB drive, you need to select Make USB Read Only.
USB Write Protector
This is an another application performing the same task as ThumbScrew. The added feature of this app is, you can use it on your computer or you can copy it inside your USB disk, it works as a portable application and hence, it secures your USB on other computers as well.
These 2 applications can help you to protect USB disk from virus, but you are still advised to use a branded USB stick or a good quality antivirus program on your computer.
I hope this post was useful. let me know if you have any issues in using these apps. I will be very happy to help you.

Interesting tips. I think I’m going to try out ThumbScrew. Many of the computers at my high school are infected with autorun.inf viruses, and they are such a pain. Over the years, I’ve figured out how to clean these off, but it would be so much better if this could keep my flash drive from getting infected in the first place.
Thanks for your comment Brian. I hope thumbscrew would be useful for you..
